In 2023, Accredo achieved a groundbreaking milestone by launching the first pouch with over 70% USDA certified bio-based material. This innovation was made possible through collaboration with Fresh-Lock, who recently developed new closures made from sugarcane-based materials. Sugarcane absorbs carbon during its growth cycle, enhancing the sustainability of these closures, which can be processed and recycled in the recyclable recovery stream. Using a single resin stream presents a unique challenge, requiring precise fine-tuning of equipment to run the material effectively, rather than adjusting resin blends to work best with plant equipment. This dedication to optimizing equipment for a single bio-based material demonstrates Accredo's commitment to sustainable sourcing and innovation, setting a new standard of 70% bio based material in the packaging industry.
